Bin Types

Use the Bin Types function to define the types of bins you use. For example, you may have bins that are for stock, bins for receiving items, and quarantine bins where you put items that need further inspection.

The system includes these standard types of bins:

  • Regular
  • Receiving
  • Packing
  • Working

Be aware you cannot delete these system-defined bin types.

For more information on the role of bins and bin types in WMS, see the Bins in WMS topic.

You can add additional bin types as needed by:

  1. Select New to create a new record.
  2. Enter a Description of the bin type. For example, you could create a Quarantine bin or a Special Order bin.
  3. Mark the Qty On Hold Y/N check box if you want the contents of the bin type to be unavailable, meaning any items in a bin type set to Qty on Hold = 'Yes' will not appear in the on-hand quantities. This will be reflected in the item availability when reviewed from the sales order screen task pane. For instance, if you have 10 widgets in a receiving bin that is marked as quantity on hold, and no widgets anywhere else, when you enter a demand for widgets, you will get a warning that there are no widgets available. In the Task Pane on the Bins tab, you can see the 10 widgets in the bin and that the bin is marked as Qty on Hold.
  4. Select Save to save the record.
